St Joseph
Memorial
19 March
1 May
Profile
Joseph is the husband of Mary found in Scripture. He is known to be
the foster and adoptive father of Jesus, he was a layman & carpenter
by trade, had a unique vision of angels who instructed him about God's
plan in his life. Noted for his willingness to immediately get up and
do what God told him. Very little is accounted about him and so is solely
known through his closeness to Christ, for this reason he is revered
in Catholic tradition as someone specially chosen by God to hold a very
unique place in God's plan for our salvation. He is believed to have
died prior to the Passion. He is a wonderful example for catholic men
of all ages.
Patronage
St. Joseph is the patron of our Parish but his patronage also stretches
far and wide. He is noted for his patronage of labourers, pioneers,
cabinetmakers, carpenters, craftsmen, confectioners, engineers, families,
and fathers. He is also protector against doubt, and will intercede
for a happy death, a holy death, and interior souls. He is a role model
for those who are concerned about social justice, a friend and carer
of travellers, workers and working people. He is the patron saint of
many countries such as Austria, Belgium, Bohemia, Canada, Korea and
China. He is seen as the protector of the Catholic Church as he was
of Mary. And especially for young couples, he is the patron for house
hunters!
